• What began as a Mercedes-Benz repair facility in 1985 has become a full-service shop that also services BMW, Jaguar and Porsche vehicles.
• Customers get a free oil service during their birth month.
• The shop recently moved to an adjacent 12,000-square-foot facility that’s twice as large as the old property.
Why they are No.1: Co-owners Chris and Emma Silvera say they run a business based on honesty and respect. “We treat everybody’s car like a member of our own family,” Chris Silvera said. The shop offers a 59-point inspection with every service, during which mechanics will help customers prioritize the repairs. “We show them what needs to be done right away instead of just trying to do everything under the sun,” Silvera said.
Claim to fame: A rewards program allows customers to accumulate points for discounts to use on subsequent visits. A car-care program offers services that cars need during normal maintenance at a discounted price. Star Motors also sponsors various local charities and puts on a car-care clinic for women and teenagers that educates them on maintenance issues such as how to use a tire gauge, what a dirty oil filter looks like and when you should replace your tires.
Silvera said they’re seeking green certification from the state Bureau of Automotive Repair. They use water-soluble cleaning supplies, keep the facilities clean to reduce water runoff, and practice proper disposal of coolants, oil filters and hazardous materials. They also use a dry mop system to avoid contaminating water and reduce water use.
